Cookie Stretches
Benefits:
Whole Body Stretch
Improves Overall Flexibility
Great Cool Down Exercise
Can be used as a warm-up exercise but perform extra slowly and really listen to your dog if they resist in any way
How To:
Start behind your dog in a stand or kneel. You can also be by their side, whatever position is most comfortable for you and your dog.
Hold one hand under their belly to steady them. This hand is only to help keep them steady and generally in the same place but if you feel any kind of resistance or hesitation - STOP and let your dog slip through your grip.
SLOWLY lure your dog’s nose to their shoulder. Hold there for a moment and if they don’t show any resistance then slowly lure them to their stomach. When first teaching, stop and take frequent breaks.
Eventually, you want to be able to bring your dog’s nose to the base of their tail and down to their rear toes. This might not happen in the first session.
It is crucial to listen to your dog if you meet any resistance or hesitation. If your dog stops eating or tries to disengage, stop and take a break. Your dog is telling you they can’t stretch that far.
Goal:
Your dog is able to stretch slowly and with no resistance into a C-shape with their nose touching the base of their tail.
